Introduction
The
portable Ludlum Model 702 radiation isotopic measurement system was
developed to give end users like first responders a simple tool to
quickly locate any abnormal levels of radioactivity and accurately
identify the isotopes present.
The instrument is coupled to a 2" x 2" NaI radiation detector whose signal is gain stabilized and automatically
calibrates itself via an embedded 40K source. The Model 702
additionally offers several advanced features for well trained experts
seeking to perform more detailed analysis either in the field or in a
laboratory.
Spectrums can be captured to a removable Compact Flash disk
or sent to a PC via an Ethernet connection. Quantum PC software to
analyze the spectra more thoroughly is included along with a NiMH
battery charger.
Neutron
Detection Capability
Ludlum also offers the Model 702-1 which adds a 3He
neutron detector. The detector is 1 in. in diameter by x 6.2 in.
long (2.5 cm by 15.7 cm), is filled to 2 atmospheres, and has a
sensitivity of 13 cps/nv. It is fed into a separate channel of the
702 and displays cps; there is no identification involved. The part
number for the Model 702-1 is: 48-3666.

Modifications of isotopes and their associated energy lines can be
done either in the field or using Microsoft Excel®. Essentially no
limit to number of isotopes or lines.
EASE OF USE:
Setup options can be password-protected for use by
non-technical personnel.

Automatic calibration (temperature) stabilization with
integral low-level 40K source. Advanced calibration
routines are available.
